Useful new booklet for senior citizens in Melksham

A new booklet designed exclusively for senior citizens in Melksham is now available to pick up for free.
The booklet, entitled “Concessions and Information for Senior Citizens” carries a wealth of useful information to help senior citizens in Melksham get the most out of public services in the area.
The booklet is the result of 10 months of hard work from members of Open House, run by Queensway Chapel, and was the brainchild of Jim Wilson.
The booklet compiles details of concessions, discounts and special offers available for senior citizens in Melksham, as well as useful addresses and amenities available in the town. It also provides numbers for a range of council services available, as well as information on community transport and useful contacts.
Jim said, “The idea stemmed from overhearing a conversation between two ladies and one of them was telling the other about an offer that she had heard about, and the thought process came from that.
“That was 10 months ago and originally the booklet was just concessions that are available to people, but it grew and grew.
“It is aimed solely at senior citizens in Melksham and it is completely free. We have printed 500 so far and we are planning to print another 500, and it there is demand for more after that then we will do our best to meet it.”
The booklets are available to pick up from Melksham Tourist Information Centre, the Town Hall, Melksham Library, Gompels Pharmacy in Bank Street, and Gompels in Snowberry Lane.
“The Open House team have been working hard collating all of the pages in the booklet,” added Jim. “I’d like to thank Ron Davies who was a great help and in the latter stages, Stuart Arnold. The beauty of the booklet is that it has everything in one place.”
Open House is one of a range of services provided by the people at Queensway Chapel to the community in Melksham and the surrounding area.
Open House is held throughout the year every Tuesday from 10.00am until 2.00pm (except August). It is a good opportunity to meet, eat, and chat with others from the local community in a friendly atmosphere.
There are a variety of activities including quizzes, word games and talks on different topics.
From 12.00noon, a light lunch and refreshments are served at affordable prices and there are occasional coach trips organised at reasonable prices.
Open House is run and staffed by Christians. Although they won’t impose their faith upon you, their input will be from a Christian perspective and, if invited, they will be delighted to share their faith with you and pray for you.
