Issue 545 – Campaign medal for Melksham nurse on the front line in Afghanistan
A Royal Navy nurse from Melksham has received a campaign medal for her six-month tour treating troops on the frontline in Afghanistan.
Naval nurse Sarah Morris served in the Helmand province at a medical centre in Lashkar Gar where she spent her days treating NATO troops as well as Afghan locals and at Camp Bastion where she has worked in the intensive care unit and with the ambulance troop.
Issue 545 – Postal sorting office to stay in town centre
ROYAL Mail has announced that Melksham's sorting office is no longer up for sale, with plans to retain the service in its current location.
In April of last year Melksham News revealed that the sorting office, situated behind Melksham's post office in Church Street, was due to close, with staff facing relocation to Chippenham.

DISUSED land behind the Christie Miller sports centre in Bowerhill has taken one step closer to becoming a new waste site as Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet signed off the area as a suitable location, despite objections from Melksham Without Parish Council.

MELKSHAM’S Mayor has forecast a bright future for the town in a speech delivered at his reception last week.
In his speech, cllr Rod Eaton highlighted Melksham’s achievements over the past year, before presenting community service awards at the annual Mayor’s reception on Friday 27th January.

AN appeal has been launched by Melksham Girl Guides to secure around £2,000 so the organisation can continue to run. Bowerhill Scout group is also under threat, as they are struggling to fill the position of Cub Scout leader.

MELKSHAM could see the addition of 2,000 new homes of which 1,930 will be in the town itself, by 2026, which could help economic growth in the town.

FEARS that the new Sainsbury’s extended store could cause flooding damage to Melksham’s nature reserve have now been realised as the wardens of the nature reserve say that the area was under water three weeks ago.

POLICE raids in Melksham have netted around £20,000 in cash as well as stolen and counterfeit goods.
