Issue 480 – Local vet to trek the Grand Canyon

A local vet, Jill Mullen, will be swapping her stethoscope for a pair of heavy duty walking boots next month when she treks from one side of the Grand Canyon to the other, all in the name of charity.

Jill, who used to work in the Melksham branch of the Hale Veterinary Group but now works in the Corsham branch, will embark on the 21 mile trek over the rugged landscape of the world's biggest canyon next month. She is hoping to complete the trek with her husband Joe in just two days.
The 'rim to rim' challenge will see Jill and Joe descending 4,500 feet on the first day of the trek. They will rest and recuperate at a ranch in the depths of the canyon overnight, before setting off again to climb 14 miles up the other side, a height of 6,000 feet.
Jill is hoping to raise as much money as she can for local charity Cat Rescue, which rescues and rehomes cats around west Wiltshire.
Jill said, "10 years ago I got my two cats, Jack and Fizz, through Cat Rescue, so it's a charity close to my heart. The charity relies on a small band of really dedicated volunteers and donations.
"I have been training for the trek for the past few weeks by walking around the local area. I know it is going to be hard work but it will definitely be worth it."
If you would like to sponsor Jill, there is a sponsorship form in the Melksham branch of the Hale Veterinary Group in Union Street.
